    Hello Cathy, and Welcome to D-A-L.

    Couple of questions;
    How much RAM is in this system?

    What size is your hard disk, and is there only one partition on it?

    Better yet, go here http://www.d-a-l.com/hardware-scan.php and run the hardware scan and post or attach the results.

    Does the machine slow down only when attempting an internet connection, or does it gradually slow down in general during it's use?

    Let's perform some basic maintenance so we're sure the drive is functioning 'up to par'. (We'll do this from DOS, outside of Windows to speed things up.)

    If you don't have one already, make a 98 EBD (Emergency Boot Disk). You'll need a 3.5" floppy disk. Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Startup Disk. Put a floppy disk in the drive and click on Create Disk. Confirm the disk creation.

    Leave the floppy in the drive and shut down or restart Windows. If the boot sequence is set for the floppy drive as the first boot device, the system should boot from the floppy. (If the system starts into Windows, post back and we'll adjust things to get it to boot from the floppy.) Choose 2. Start computer without CD-ROM support. At the A:\> prompt, type in scandisk/all/autofix/nosave/nosummary/surface and hit Enter. Once it's finished, (you'll be returned to the A:\> prompt) remove the floppy from the drive and restart the machine normally into Windows.

    Open My Computer or Windows Explorer. Go to C:. Right click and choose New, Folder. Name it Regseeker. Download RegSeeker 1.52 from http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm and extract all files into this new folder. Go to the new folder and run Regseeker(.exe). (It should be the last icon in the file listing.) Choose Clean the registry. Click OK.When it finishes scanning, click on Select (near the bottom of the found keys screen) and Select All. Then click on Action (just to the right of Select) and choose Delete selected items. A window will pop up showing a backup reg file. Click on OK. Then click on Quit RegSeeker.

    Reboot the machine and try your internet connection and post back if things have sped up.
