on shut down my p c is saying a fatel exception of 0e has occured at 0116f 60040abd9 will be turminated does any one know what this means? also if windows fails to start run set up?

I've searched the MSKB (Microsoft Knowledge Base) and come up with nothing for that error.

Could you please copy the error message down EXACTLY as it appears, including any spaces and puncuation (colon, semi-colon, <, >, etc).

The closest I could come up with was http://ask.support.microsoft.com/kb/189655/ which is in regards to old Symantec (NORTON) antivirus being installed. Do you have any Norton products installed on this machine?

Also have you recently installed any type of software which may affect the cluster size(s) of your hard disk(s)? ie; Third party disk formatters/defraggers, etc.

hi thank you fpr that i will do, well i turned on the p c this morning only to find it is telling me windows could not up grade the file from then was blank space, one or more system files before starting run set up again? it does start after a while ido keep on top off de frag n delete the temp files & cookies ? thank you for your help.cathy

forgot to add i do not have norton on i have makafee protection.

Do you mean you received an error stating:

windows could not up grade "the file???" from BLANK SPACE
Was there a name for "the file???"


Then:

one or more system files "are missing"?


Then it tells you to:

run set up again


"it does start after a while" So Windows does run?

Can you run Scandisk on C: from within Windows? (Open My Computer, right click on C:, choose Properties, then click on the Tools tab. Then click on Check Now... button in the Error-checking-status area.)
