Only 16 colors
I am sorry but I am new here so do not know if this has ever been answered before. I had to reinstall Windows 98 SE and now I can only get a choice of 2 or 16 colors. No other choices and no way to change it. I am not very computer smart so am asking that you be patient with me and try to explain so that I can understand it. Any help would be so appreciated as I am having such a time even trying to read anything.

You probably just need to reinstall your graphics drivers.
What is the make and model of the computer? e.g. HP Presario 1234 etc.
Or if it was custom built or you do not know then please post back this scan so we can see what is inside:

O.k. now you will know just how very green I am. I downloaded what it said then ran the scan and clicked on the copy to clipboard button but I can't find the clipboard so I can copy and paste it to you. Help please.
-
You may need to run the scan again. The clipboard is basically just the last thing that you copied.
After you copy to clipboard go to a reply box and paste: Ctrl V
In other words unless you have a clipboard extension program the clipboard is simply the last thing that you copied.

-Thank you so much for the reply. Here is the scan.------------------------------------------------------

What is you exact Compaq model?
e.g. Presario 5000 etc.
-
Presario 5100CA is what it says.
-
OK. Sorry for the continued questions but Compaq is not listing graphics drivers for that model:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...&product=92994
Therefore please download this little program:
http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php
What is listed under > Mainboard > Chipset
-
One of these should work for you but we need to try and pin down the chipset:

This is what it says with the first link you posted.
Under mainboard and then chipset it says:
chipset VIA KT133 rev. 81
southbridge VIA VT82C686
