I turn on my computer and nothing appears. The computer starts up but the monitor light just blinks on and off. I've tried multiple monitors but nothing works. I can hear no background activity so I think the hard drive is dead.

Did this just happen "overnight"?
Was the machine working OK recently?
Have you added any new hardware or software just prior to this problem?
See the article here on troubleshooting POST problems.
Post back with your answers, results of the above, and any further questions.
I'll try that out tomorrow (it's midnight here right now). On a different note, I tried inserting a CD and autoplaying it and the audio started up but the display remained dead. Would this mean that the video card is definately the problem?Originally Posted by Dan Penny
It could be the video card. It also could be the monitor to video card connector is loose, the video card needs to be reseated, bad drivers, conflicting VXD addresses as a result of new hardware being installed, etc.
It could also be a result of switching the monitor video cable from the onboard video connector to the add-on peripheral PCI card connector before the bios has been told that there is a change.
Hence my questions.
