    Spyware/Virus problem

I'm sure I have a Virus/Spyware on my Windows 2000 computer. I can go online (amid the constant pop ups) and browse any web site except those where you can download virus/Spyware programs, e.g. Trend Micro, McAfee, Norton, etc. When I try to get an online scan, the computer will close IE. I have tried this in safe mode with networking, but it fails also. I downloaded Spybot and AVG virus scan on another computer, put it on CD and tried to install them them on Win 2000 computer, but it only flashed the setup wizard, then goes away. I tried to install another program that has nothing to do with Spyware, and it let me install them with no problem. I put a DOS virus scan from another computer on a CD and it ran about 3 minutes, then shut the computer down. I closed all programs, except Microsoft, that were running and it didn't help. I installed Ad-Aware SE (it kept flashing the setup wizard, but finally it allowed me to install) went on line and updated, ran scan and deleted 276 findings. I ran scan again and it found 6, but couldn't delete them. Any help would be appreciated.

As a first response you might want to post a HijackThis log for review by our Pros in that section:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.

    (Not in this section please).

Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log.

I did the custom thing in Ad-aware and ran a scan in safe mode. It found, but could not remove Win32 trojan.dnschanger. Also, it wont' let me download Hijackthis. It closes IE, just like it does when I try to download from spyware/virus web sites. Also, it now blocks me from D drive (cdrom) and floppy drive. Is Win32 trojan.dnschanger the same as Trojan.Flush.C and if so, is there a way to remove it manually without a spyware/virus program. I also am blocked from regedit. It flashes, but quickly disappears. Am I to the point of giving up and restoring to factory setting?

Am I to the point of giving up and restoring to factory setting?

    That's what I would do.

To answer your other questions please ask them in a new thread in the Spyware... section. Those guys are the pros in that area.
