Problem resolved. The Floppy drive wasn't connected! I don't know how that happened but it did. Once I connected the drive, I was able to install the system. There were a few glitches but the biggest problem was that the system was so that the startup would only work from a floppy. With the floppy disconnected, well .... it didn't really matter what I tried, did it?
