    Cannot find specified file!?!?

Hiya guys - this is my first post so I hope you can impress me!

I am having problems with just downloading files and installing them.

For example I wanted to update my Norton Antivirus but the puter says I need to upgrade to service pack 4. So I went to Microsoft and it scanned my pc and said I needed it too. I download the file and then I try to install it but it comes up with an error message saying it cannot find the specified file. The same problem also happens when I try to download the latest version on messenger, I can download but I cannot open files as the pc says it cant find it!! Grrr!!

Cant live without PC need help for my addiction and my pc lol!!

Is that the full verbatim error message?

As to SP4 were you using Windows Update?

Is this a new problem? Were downloads working OK previously? Any new hardware or software?

    This is a possible try:

    1. Open a Command Prompt window.
    2. Type msiexec /unregister and press ENTER.
    3. Type msiexec /regserver and press ENTER.
    4. Close the Command Prompt window.

while trying to install MSN 7.0 I get this.....

    Error Creating process
<C:\DOCUME~1\WORKST~1\LOCALS~1\TEMP\IXP000.TMP\boo tstrap.exe> Reason: The system cannot find the specified file.

while trying to get windows update (service pack 4) it says....

Extraction failed. The system cannot find the specified file.
Tried that command prompt thing. Nothing has changed

    Try this download of SP4:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

If it fails by the Run method

To start the installation immediately, click Open or Run this program from its current location.
    try the Save method:

To copy the download to your computer for installation at a later time, click Save or Save this program to disk.

From the Save method on SP4 try to manually extract and run:

    Command-Line Options for W2ksp4.exe and Update.exe
To deploy the service pack, you can run W2ksp4.exe, which extracts the installation files for SP4. Update.exe then runs automatically to install the service pack. You can define the way these steps are completed by using the options explained in this section.

The following table describes the command-line options that both the W2ksp4.exe and Update.exe programs support. You can include one or more options that you want to use when you type the command to extract files from W2ksp4.exe. The options are passed to Update.exe. They dictate the specifics of the installation process. The options do not affect the way the files are extracted, however.

I had the same problem. I read somewhere on the Internet that it might be a problem with cryptographic services and ran the script downloaded from this page.

I had to reboot in order to get the fix to work.

    I hope this helps.
