Files go missing between O/S (XP --> Win98)

    Hi,
I've got a desktop running XP, and an old Stylistic 2300 Tablet PC running Win98.

I've got a 40 Gig HDD (2 x 20 G partition) in the Tablet PC that I've been removing from the Tablet, hooking to the Desktop via a usb2 -> IDE cable ... and then transferring any files I wanted to have on the Tablet...
HDD is formatted to Fat32 (naturally).

I've found that more often than not... the files seem to transfer across to the HDD ok... (can view all file details from the XP box)...

However, when I put the HDD back into the Tablet PC... only the folder which I put the files into is there... it's empty..

Any sub-folders within that folder are also gone...
The properties of the folder show there is 0kb of file space within the folder itself... ie. empty folder.

If I move the HDD back to the desktop... there are all the files sitting happily in the folder again... really odd.

This has me stumped... if the folder had not appeared, I would assume that none of the files are visible..
(Folder options are set to NOT hide any files etc)...
Please help me as I have no option than to use this method of transfer..

    Regards,

    Hello, and Welcome to D-A-L.

It sounds like the two machines are "seeing" the drive parameters differently. Was the 40GB drive formatted in the Tablet PC or the XP PC?

I have a similar problem. After formatting a second HD, I reloaded all my personnel files onto it with one slight problem. Booting into XP ( I have a dual boot option ), the files are not seen!

Fortunately, win98 has always recognised the files until today. Suddenly, win98 has stopped seing the files, or any of the associated folders.
