Programmes automatically load and run in background when starting computer. How do I stop the unnecessary programmes from automatically loading?

Start, Run, type in msconfig and click on the Startup tab. Remove the check marks from anything you don't wan't running. I recommend leaving Scan Registry enabled. This is the "System Restore" tool which can sometimes get you out of a jam. I'd also leave any display adapter affiliated programs and of course Anti-Virus/Firewall entries if present.

Also check your Startup folder under START, PROGRAMS.
