I really need help,it all happened when i was cleaning out the computer and i accadently erased somthing important (its a windows 98 thinkpad) and when i start it up now all i get is "Canot find SYSTUM.INI. You need to run windows setup again to install the file."And after it says that it just shuts off...please help me

Boot the system to a command prompt. (Start tapping the Ctrl or F8 key when it displays "Starting Windows 98". You have to be quick.) At the resulting DOS prompt, enter "c:\windows\command\scanreg/restore" (without the quote marks) and pick a date prior to the error. Post back with your results.

I really don't know how to do the beginning of what you said "boot the system to a command prompt."....im not very computer savvy sorry but could you say that again for me to understand?
