Question There's ghost data on my harddrive!

Okay, so I have a 6GB harddrive, so I freqently delete old stuff for new stuff, and I had around 1.4GB free, so I wanted to free up a little space.
I delete some stuff and end with with 3GB free space, but then, my computer was about to freeze so I pressed the restart button.
When it turns back on, I check how much space I have again and it says 1.7GB of free space!
I check the sizes of all the files and folders in my C: Drive and it adds up to 3GB.
Now there's over a gig of mystery space on my harddrive. How do I get rid of it?

You could try defragmenting the drive and see if that helps. It couldn't possibly hurt to try.

Some system files are hidden and, if you select all of your files/folders and check the Properties to see the total size, the figure will not always include hidden files.

The best way to get a summary of disk space usage is to right-click on the C: drive and select Properties from the menu. That gives you a nice pie chart showing total space, used space and free space. Is that where you looked?

Problem solved. I ran a Scandisk and it turned out that there were some remnants of the things that I deleted floating around. I also defragmented my drive to free up a little more space.
    Thanks for your responses.
