Downloading a driver from Lexmark for X83 printer/scanner

I recently acquired a Lexmark X83 printer/scanner. Unfortunately it did not come with any software cd's. So I went to the Lexmark site to download a driver. In the middle of the download, Internet Explorer crashed so I started over. Now when I try to open the downloaded file, I get the following error message: "WinZip Self Extractor: Zip file is damaged, truncated or has been changed. If you downloaded this file, try downloading again." If they are talking about the driver, I can't download it. If they are talking about WinZip, I did not download it. In fact I removed it from my programs. Any help will be most sincerely appreciated.

Thanks for the thought, but that is where I have been trying to download the driver. I know how to do that; I can't get past the WinZip extractor.

Sounds like your WinZip was not completely uninstalled and this is perhaps the reason for your error.

Run a Search for WinZip files (show hidden files and system files) and delete manually. (especially WZSHLEXT.DLL).

If this fails reinstalling then uninstalling WinZip again may help. http://www.winzip.com/

Also reset your file associations to remove WinZip from automatically handling .zip files.

I am not familiar with ME but in XP this would be via: Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types

I am trying to do everything you suggested but now I have run into a new problem: my Search option for files and folders won't open up. Also I keep getting a new error message:"Helpctr has caused an error in OLE32.DLL. Helpctr will now close." What do I do now? I am beginning to feel really frazzled. A new job I could get depends entirely on my being able to use my scanner and ........

Another new problem: I cannot click on and open any links anywhere, i.e. at D-A-L or in my e-mail.

Try a System Restore to a point prior to these problems:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

I have done absolutely everything that you told me to do and at the end of the day, I still get the same WinZip error message as in message #1. I still cannot download the driver from Lexmark that I need!!!! Any more suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

All of your issues combined are starting to suggest a viral problem.

How do you feel about reinstalling ME?

    Otherwise:

As a first response you might want to post a HijackThis log for review by our Pros in that section:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).

Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log.

1}It can't be a virus because my system runs a daily virus scan.
2}I can't reload ME because I don't have the disk.
3}All my other problems have resolved themselves with your nifty System Restore suggestion. I should have let you know that! (Sorry!!!).
I am left with the one problem of not being able to install the Lexmark X83 software. I even contacted WinZip support today and the jerk told me to reinstall the software even tho I explained how and why I cannot do that!
One last thing for you to think on: Doing a Search, I came upon a whole list of zip.dll entries and also other suffixes. I kind of wonder what would if I deleted the whole mess??
