Re: Downloading a driver from Lexmark for X83 printer/scanner
Searching my XP I get a few zip.dll listed for Java.
Also a few gzip.dll in Service Pack files.
Now that you can search did you try:
Run a Search for WinZip files (show hidden files and system files) and delete manually. (especially WZSHLEXT.DLL).
Create a Restore point and start deleting. Everything you delete will go into your Recycling bin until you empty it.
You have no Restore Disks from the computer manufacturer? What is the make and model?

I got this computer secondhand with no documentation of any kind. It is a Compaq Presario 5003US. Does that help? Here goes the Mad Deleter! Pray for me! I am so tired of this mess that I want to take the scanner (also acquired secondhand!) and toss it in the nearest garbage pail!

Let us know how it goes. HP/Compaq (and Microsoft itself) no longer supports 95/98/ME. So no recovery disks there

YYou got me thinking: I have a Quick Restore disk from a Compaq Presario that I owned a while back. Do you think that might help? Other than that, the zip file deletes had no effect on my problem. I think I am going to give it a rest for a while and will let you know if anything changes. Thank you for your time and patience!

As Compaq appears to use the same disk across their Presario series that disk might just work.

I am going away for the next couple of weeks so I won't have any more time to try to figure this mess out. When I get home, I will try and I will then let you know what is going on! Thanks so much for all your help!
