Cool Replacing a Video Card to get 256 colors?

How difficult would it be for me to take one video card out of one pc and put in the one that needs 256 colors?

It's quite easy to install a video adapter card. If the current adapter is onboard video, you may have to enter the bios and change from AGP to PCI, unless the new adapter is already AGP, and in an AGP slot on the motherboard. Bios's vary as to how the description/mode is handled.

It may be only a case of proper/better drivers for the existing video display adapter. You may not need to replace the current adapter, unless it is very very old.

What is the current (listed) display adapter? (Open Device Manager and expand the Display Adapter and post what is listed.)

Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Computer, Summary, Display, or under Display, PCI/AGP Video. This will tell you what display adapter/chip you have. Post that information. (Video Adapter and 3D Accelerator.)

    Try this link instead:

    http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/Hardware/g...2/752win98.zip

That's the same site that Dan gave you but it's a direct link to the ZIP file, rather than the web page that lists the downloads available. You'll need a copy of Winzip (free from www.winzip.com) to extract the contents of the compressed ZIP file but you may already have that.

When you click the link to the ZIP file, it will ask you to open or save it. Save it to somewhere on the hard disk that you'll be able to find again in a few minutes (!) and then scan it for viruses before extracting it. The download is 7MB.

    Hope that helps
