    Unhappy System Restarts On Clicking Shutdown

    I dont know what the hell is wrong with my system. It behaved normally till last week. But now when i click Start>Turn Off Computer>Shutdown, the system restarts insted of shutting down.

    I assume that there is some file missing needed to shut down the computer.

    Plz help me out on this issue.

    Thanks and Regards,
    Nisar.

    Have a look at this MSKB article and post back if it helped or not.

    "When Windows 98 Second Edition does not shut down properly, it may appear to stop responding (hang) for several minutes while the following message is displayed on the screen:

    Please wait while your computer shuts down

    Or, you may see only a blank screen and a blinking cursor, or your computer may restart instead of shutting down.
    "

    Sorry for replying so late. Actually i had to format my disk and re-install Win98. Now my problem is solved. BTW, that article had a lot of vital info about computers. Thanks again.

    You're welcome. Too bad such drastic measures were taken, but if you're satisfied, that's what counts.

    The MSKB (MicroSoft Knowledge Base) holds much info. When working a MS problem, this is usually where I go first. I use the advanced searches there;

    http://support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1

    I'll close this thread. If you'd like it reopened for some continuance of this problem, just PM me or any Moderator and it can be reopened.
