Gateway Essential HD Dilema!
HELLo;
After THE AQUISITION OF AN OLDER MODEL GATEWAY ESSENTIAL TOWER,OBTAINED FROM A FRIEND,(MISSING RECOVERY DISK),I PURCHASED THE CORRECT HARD DRIVE,ON EBAY;INSTALLED IT,AND I GUESS,PARTITIONED IT INCORRECTLY???
AT ANY RATE,ALL I AM ABLE TO SEE IS 16BIT COLOR(AS IN SAFE MODE) WITH NO OTHER COLOR OPTIONS AVAILABLE WITHIN THE DEVICE MANAGER,OR ON THE SYSTEM;
AND I ALSO HAVE NO SOUND.
I'M OPEN TO ANY AND ALL SUGGESTIONS,AS I HAVE MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO RESEARCH AND AQUIRE THE CORRECTION FOR THIS DILEMA.

Hello, and Welcome to DAL.
Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, for the sound device, look under Computer, Summary, Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.
For the display adapter, look under Display, or under Display, PCI/AGP Video. This will tell you what display adapter/chip you have. Post that information. (Video Adapter and 3D Accelerator.)
Also post the exact name/model number of the Gateway machine.

I'm assuming that these are the onboard device chips and not seperate cards in motherboard slots. If this is the case, ensure the sound device is enabled in the bios.
I've done some searching and found many driver packages, but some are dependant upon motherboard type etc, so I'd like to get some more information.
Run Everest, and once it's finished loading, run the Report Wizard (on the Menu Bar). Choose Hardware Related pages, and save it in HTML format. Zip the HTML document, and attach it to your posting. (Use the Go Advanced option, and below the posting box click on Manage Attachments and follow the prompts.)
I've also been back to the Gateway site but couldn't match up a model etc based upon the posted info. If there is a serial number on the system, please post that info. (If you're uncomfortable posting the serial number, you can PM me with it.)

Apologies for being away for so long. I found your PM notification in my Email, but unfortunately it got buried in the multitude of messages. This is one of the reasons we don't work through PM's, just the boards. As well, you haven't updated your thread so I had to trace back through your board name to find the original posting. (From your PM: "THE OTHER INFORMATION YOU HAVE REQUESTED WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO YOU, AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE TIME INTERVAL,AVAILABLE TO ME..........AND I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THIS EMAIL." As a result, I was waiting for the updated topic notification to indicate you've "returned" to the posting.
It would help tremendously if you could attach the Everest Report (hardware) to your posting.
As you can see from this Gateway page; http://support.gateway.com/support/d...&uid=127024123, there are many motherboards/chipsets for the sound drivers. In the "box" near the bottom = Gateway Parts Supported:
If you were pointed to certain downloads by Gateway based upon the info you provided them, and these downloaded drivers aren't working, it's possible that bios settings might need to be changed. For sound and video, the settings are different (Enabled/Disabled) depending on if you have actual cards in motherboard PCI slots, or, onboard chips (on the motherboard) for the sound and video.
Can you verify if you have an actual sound card and video card in a motherboard PCI slot?
