I had this same problem. Was finally able to get computer into safe mode after putting in installation cd and choosing repair option. Then ran check disk. After that, computer started normally. However since this happened, clicking on a link in an email causes IE 6.0 to freeze and have to go into task manager to shutdown IE 6.0.
Did you also have this same problem?
