IO.SYS is your main file on the DOS end of 98SE and earlier DOS versions. It's the InputOutput system file. It's this file and command.com that really run your system. MSDOS.SYS is basically a "pointer/load" file. It tells these other two where things are and how the O/S should load. These are your three primary files. IO.SYS should always be write protected (Read Only).
