Question Explorer error when I open Gmail

I have been running a gmail account for about a year.
From time to time when I try to open it , I get an error message and it shuts down.
Recently I haven't been able to open it at all.

I am working on a Japanese Operating System which makes it difficult
    to read error messages.

I get this (see below) on the error message - I can't copy the more detailed explanation.

    AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2800.1106 ModName: urlmon.dll
    ModVer: 6.0.2800.1537 Offset: 00026314

I checked out urlmon.dll errors here
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=254490
This is not the problem - there is nothing about quicktime view in that folder.

It only does this with GMAIL - but when I use my computer at work I can access
    Gmail with no problems.

I'm not sure where the problem lies, or how to fix it.

    Any ideas?_

Something else that may or may not be related -
on my home computer when I type in addresses
when using Gmail, the computer no longer remembers
the address - I have to select from the contact list
or type it in. When I use Gmail at work, the address
comes up as soon as you start writing it - much more
    convenient.
I would also like to fix this on my home computer if possibe.

    Quick try here:

click start button\run\type in "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" (without the quotations), click OK

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I've just tried it and shut down and re-started.
It's still shutting down with the same message.
    It's very odd.
It only does it with Gmail....

It doesn't do it every time - most times though.

    I don't know Windows '98 ...I started with XP

Hopefully one of our more knowledgeable entities will be by soon.

I would only wonder if you have the latest Windows Updates?

Perhaps the latest IE updates might help.

Here is a G Mail Group:

    http://groups.google.com/group/Gmail...r+error&qt_g=1

Although at first glance I see no similar error.

Your URLMON.DLL error is more specific to IE than G Mail.

    Just thinking outloud (online)

Thanks very much and Thanks for the link.
I'll take a look this evening.

I have all the windows critical updates
and have explorer 6.1 - maybe I should update to the beta 7???

My gmail has the second issue of addresses not showing
when I start typing them. It used to be OK.

It feels like there is something incompatible with gmail on
    my machine, (or the reverse).

    Thanks again.

NO do not try IE Beta 7! There are many unresolved issues.

The address history is probably just a simple setting where the history was cleared and not resumed.

There might be a malware issue in which case I would advise the following:

As a first response you might want to post a HijackThis log for review by our Pros in that section:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).

Please specify what issues you appear to be experiencing along with your log.

    Hello, and Welcome to DAL.

Sorry for the delay. I started this response yesterday and saved it to a text file as my system is "up and down" at the moment. ie; Internet response is fast for one instance, then slows to nothing at the next instance. It was up, then I went to post a reply and it died again. Right now it's quick again, fingers crossed........

Thanks jephree for covering. (I'll be updating my thread re; systems in the Mods Room to explain the above, and probably seeking your and others help with the XP on this "current & new" system.) ;>)

Way back when, I was offered an "invite" for a GMAIL account. I took it, signed up, and never could get it to work, so I have zero experience with the application. I have a gmail account I can't access (or get to work) for probably two years now.

I've been watching, hoping someone with knowledge in GMAIL would reply. No one has, so I didn't want to leave you waiting any longer.

Given the above, plus working with a Japanese O/S, we'll be starting from scratch if you will.

Have you tried a fresh install of the GMAIL program? (With the latest (non-beta) install package from Google.)

Re: the address completion. Do you have auto-complete turned on?
(Control Panel, Internet Options, Advanced, Use inline AutoComplete for Web Addresses & Use inline AutoComplete in Windows Explorer.)

What version & encryption package are you running for Internet Explorer? I highly suggest IE 6 & 128 bit encryption if you aren't running this.
