    Exclamation Taskbar Problems

I have a problem. I just installed win 98SE on my computer and there is a problem with my taskbar. No programs or applications will show up on the Bar except for Internet Explorer. The Programs will run, but if i minimize them, there's no way to bring it back. If anyone needs to know the specifications of my system, just ask.

Your task bar you refer to you mean the bar down the bottom not the start button menu? You need to right click an empty area of the taskbar and select toolbars to make sure quick launch is ticked. If it is you can drag icons down from your desktop and onto the bar next to IE.
Not sure with 98 if you have to right click and unlock taskbar first before you can drag the icons down. They will only make a copy of the ones from your desktop so you won't lose the originals.

No, not that. It's the main part of the bar i'm having a problem with. Say I have Internet Explorer running and it shows the running programs in the bar. Mine doens't do that. No running programs show up.

    You might read this:

    http://securityresponse.symantec.com...reet.worm.html

That exact behavior has been attributed to this worm.

Just a check since that matches your symptoms.

So you have none of these files installed:

The installer also creates the following files:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Install.log
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Otdock.dll
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Otglove.dll
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Otms.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Otupdate.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Uninstal.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Winsrvc.dat
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\Winsrvc.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\NewBinary2.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\NewBinary3.exe
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Media\NewBinary4.exe

I don't have a media file in my common files folder. I already looked.

Sorry that is about the only issue that I can find:

I am not too familiar with '98 so hopefully someone else will have more ideas in the near future.

    I do see this suggestion:

This may be caused by a problem with the Registry. If you have a
backup of the Registry from before this occurred first, restore it. You
can access backups of the last five days with starting the MS-DOS Mode
    and running the command
    SCANREG /restore
If that does not help you may want to reinstall Windows 98 on top of
the old files. Remove any IE updates installed on your computer before
    you do this.

I performed a System Restore to yesterday and the problem went away. Thanks for the help. I just don't know how it got in my computer.

Thanks for the thanks. I don't know either. I will leave this thread open as maybe someone else will have an idea.
