Windows 98 crash
In a moment of frustration I ran my windows xp disk in my hard drive running windows 98 and lost everything.
I do not have the boot disk because someone gave me the modem.
Do I need to completely clean the hard drive before I might buy and restore the windows 98? how do I remedy this problem....
thanks so much

Did you tell the XP install to format the C: partition, or otherwise overwrite the 98 files in an attempted XP install?
Please try to be as specific as possible as to what happened, and in the order which it happened.

I have a computer I am running windows xp on that I purchased and hence have the restore disk to. I was given a modem of which I was going to network with my xp computer, this modem was running windows 98.. I don't remember exactly what I was trying to do, sorry, but I got frustrated and (I don't know much about computers YET) put my xp restore disk into the windows 98 modem and there you go...... now....... nothing, the computer boots to choose run in safe mode or run windows normally, but anything choosen at that point brings me right back to that prompt again. I had another hard drive running windows 98SE so I tryed to format a floppy and ran a scan on the one I just "demolished"... it said no memory left.
I wanted to be able to find a boot cd of windows 98 and restore it, but am confused that there won't be enough memory because I need to wipe the hard drive clean ???????

OK, I'm a bit confused here....
"I was given a modem"
"this modem was running windows 98.."
" put my xp restore disk into the windows 98 modem"
FIRST: Did you install this "new" modem in a XP machine, OR, in a 98 machine? ie; In what machine does the modem reside?
Did you get a driver package for this modem?
Is the driver package for 98?
Is the driver package for XP?
Is the driver package for both O/S's? (Operating Systems)
"...the computer boots to choose run in safe mode or run windows normally, but anything choosen at that point brings me right back to that prompt again."
Again, what machine? XP or 98?
Do you have a dual boot machine - 98 & XP?
Not all 98 CD's are bootable.
