    No error message was shown and the Network Neighbourhood icon will disappear as well.

    Hello, and Welcome to DAL.

    It could be that your ISP is disconnecting the connection due to (a certain amount of) inactivity. AOL is known for this. If there's no input within a few minutes it sees the connection as inactive and drops it.

    Can you provide any more detail?

    Do you really use Network Neighbourhood in any way?

    Thank you very much for your reply.
    Yes, I really need it because I need Network Neighbourhood to access my server to retrieve files from it.
    The OS I am using is Window 98 SE and there are a few PCs in my office whice are using the same OS and they are working fine.
    Actually, my PC is not completely disconnect from the network because other PCs in the LAN can still "see" and access my PC. I had changed the NIC as well but problem remain unsolve.
    Could it be the setting or unstability of my OS?
    Thanks and hope to hear from you soon.

    Hi, I'd like to see if I can help. It's an unusual problem, however - not one that I have heard of before.

    In case we can't resolve the issue of the Network Neighborhood icon disappearing, I would like to propose that you map the network drives that you need and access them through Windows Explorer or My Computer instead. To do this:

    Open Windows Explorer or My Computer;
    Expand Network Neighborhood;
    Expand the list of servers;
    Expand the server that you want to connect to;
    Right-click a share that you want to use;
    Select 'Map Network Drive';
    Choose a drive letter to assign to this shared folder on the selected server;
    If there is an option to remember this network drive or keep it connected when you restart the PC, select that option.

    You can repeat the above process for any or all of the shared areas in Network Neighborhood that you want to use. Each shared area can be assigned to a different drive letter.

    Please try this and let us know if the Network Neighborhood icon still intermittently disappears and also whether, at that time, the mapped network drives still work.

    Will look forward to hearing from you and helping further

    My problem solved after I mapped the network drive.
    It works well after 3 days.
    Thanks.
