    Unhappy checksum error

    I have a second pc, an old Packard Bell 9366 running Win 98 second edition. I loaded Norton Ghost 9.0 on there and when I next turned the pc on windows wouldn't load and I just got an error message on a black screen which said 'error hidden sectors checksum'. I have no idea what this means. I tried uninstalling Norton Ghost in safemode and when that didn't help I then tried running the full recovery program. Norton Ghost did uninstall successfully but I still got the same error message and the recovery program no longer works. Some help would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

    Hello, and Welcome to DAL.

    It's been a while since I've worked on a PB system. I've tried researching the PB website with your posted model number, but it doesn't let you get very far without a system serial number;

    I can't remember if there's a hidden setup partition on the hard disk, similar to old Compaq systems. If so, you'll need the setup files to get things back to where they were.

    See what information you can come up with at the above site and post back with your results and any further questions.

    Thanks Dan the problem is solved the solution is to go into msconfig into the autoexec.bat section and untick the c:/load drivers, then reboot and everything comes back in perfect working order, it seems that something in Packard Bells operating system does not like Norton Ghost.
    This experience has put me off loading Norton Ghost on my new Packard Bell however.
