Unhappy I'm pretty sure I've killed it but...

I had my desktop sat in storage for a few (well 5) months.
Tried to plug the old girl in today and ...well... not a lot happened really.
The power light came on, the fan started and the cd/dvd drive would open but no sign of action on the monitor. Tried hooking up my laptop to the monitor and it worked just fine.
I am hoping that I can salvage some stuff from the hard drive?

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Imbecile!

You can always put the hard drive on another computer to extract the data.

That being said we can try to get this one going. First off I would open it up and check all the connections and re-seat the graphics card assuming that you have a graphics card? Or is your graphics port on-board?

There is an article here re: "ESD - What can I do to avoid damage" in case you are unfamiliar with working inside the case.
