    Memory test fail.

    Hi everyone.

I have been given a computer by my parents. Today I riged it up and turned it on.

I recived a Memory test fail. All I can tell you is what came up on the screen, which is as followes:-

    Windows 98.
    MAIN PROCESSOR:Intel(R) Celeron(TM) 500MHz
    (CPUID : 665, microcode ID: 0003)
memory testing: 64512K OK + 1024K shared memory
Award plug and play Bios extension v1,0A
Copyright (C) 1999, Award software, Inc.
Trend chipawayvirus(R) on guard Ver 1.63A
Primary Master: SAMSUNG SV0682D LN 100
    Primary slave: None.
    Secondary Master: CD-ROM Drive/E5A B1.3 B1.3
    Secondry Slave: None.

    Memory test fail
Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup

The computer was working fine when last used.
Can anyone tell me what I have to do next? And if so, will you please help?

I hope there is enough info to be getting on with.

    ATB Gary.

    PART 2.

OK, I'm not sure what I'm doing with the setup so I opted for F1.

The windows 98 screen came and went, then:-

    While initializing device VMCPD:
Windows protection error, you need to restart your computer.
You need to start in SAFE MODE

Warning: Windows did not finnishloading on the previous attempt. Choose SAFE MODE, to start windows with a minimal set of drivers.

So I started in SAFE MODE. And up poped:-

    HIMEM is testing extended memory...Done.
    Windows XMS driver version 3.95
Extended memory specification (XMS) version 3.0
    Copyright 1988-1995 microsoft corp.

    ERROR: HIMEM.SYS
has detected unreliable XMS memory at address 02000004 XMS driver not installed.

To continue starting your computer, press ENTER.

I pressed ENTER, and up poped the following:-

    HIMEM.SYS is missing.
Make sure that the file is in your Windows directory.

Windows has stopped. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart your computer.

I hope this is of some help. (More hopes).

I would really apreciate some input on this. Thanks for your interest.

    ATB Gary again.
