    system restarts

    Hi

I am facing a weird situation with my PC. As it automatically gets restarted after 10-15 mins when I open my web browser (IE/Opera) and start running any site on it. There is just a screen of death (blue screen) flickered on the screen before system restart. I have broadband connection attached whose ASDL modem is connected with USB Port.

My System Config is as follows:

    OS: Win2000 Pro
    HDD: 40GB
    RAM: 128MB
    Processor: 1.1GHz

    Plz give any suitable suggestion.

    Thanks

In order to freeze that blue screen in order to write down the error message:

rt. click My Computer then click Properties then Advanced then Startup and Recovery Settings then unclick Automatically restart

If you want to try and analyze the errors:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

Most Blue Screen errors (which are system stop errors) provoke what is called a Memory Dump.

Sometimes you will see the screen saying dumping physical memory.

This creates a dump log which back traces the steps leading up to the STOP.

You will get a basic error such as: 0x0000000A: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

You will also get further parameters which hopefully will point to what triggered the STOP.

Anyway the dump traces back the steps the computer was processing leading up to the STOP.

It is hard to speculate without error messages. If you change that Auto Restart setting see if you can force an error.

Many computer problems triggered by web browsers are viruses but certainly not all.

Here are other possible sources for error logs of various types:

Also view your Error Log via:

    [1] Start Menu
    [2] Help and Support
    [3] Pick a Task
    [4] Tools
    [5] Advanced System Information
    [6] View the Error Log

Also: look in your Event viewer: rt. click My Computer then click Manage then Event Viewer.
Or: Administrative Tools/Event Viewer or Start/Run/ eventvwr
Open the system as well as the application tabs & look for X errors. Click error line for details.
Post back the source & event id & Description especially of errors that seem to coincide with this issue.
Also check the Information lines that might coincide with this issue.

    If you suspect a virus:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.

    hey jephree

tell me plz abt folder.htt Actually this file has entered in my system's each and every folder and before opening any drive lets say 'D:\' an error appears on the window asking 'Do you want to run script on this page? Yes No' This msg shows the path of this file as 'D:\WINNT\WEB\folder.htt'

Is it any virus?? should i remove it from each and every directory for working properly or it can be removed by any antivirus??

Also, My Event Log file has been currupted. Is there any harm from this? There are many x errors in Event Viewer (Application) folder, what should i do for that files??

    plz suggest

Both folder.htt and desktop.ini are normal Windows system files. However, they can be exploited by a virus.

How is the corruption of the Error Log noted? You can copy and paste the Event Viewer if necessary by choosing Action while the list is open. Then: Save Log File As...

Just to clear things up I would suggest posting a HijackThis for our Pros in that section:
