Error on startup - everything goes big!

    Hi there,

Upon starting up my computer I get the error message below:

Kb891711 has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL. Kb891711 will now close.

Everything on the screen then appears very large and the cursor does not appear on screen.

I have tried removing the Kb891711 update from Add/Remove Programs in Safe Mode, but when I boot back into normal mode it is still the same.

Can anyone help me to resolve this problem?

    Many thanks,

    Jazz

The only thread I've seen referring to this problem suggests removing the offending update and then downloading all new updates. Can you get one the net in safe mode to try this?

You also might try a System Restore to a date prior to that update.

I read that thread too and tried removing the update, but whenever I try to get onto the net in safe mode the computer freezes.

I'll try a system restore.. Could you remind me how to do that please? I'm not great on fixing computers!

    Thanks.

Theres a step by step here http://www.windowsreinstall.com/inst...em_restore.htm
You just have to make sure you take it back before the date of the update installation.
