    Floppy disk info retrieval question.

I've searched around this site but didn't run across this problem. Have an older computer so all my info is on floppys. Usually have at least three copies of each disk but naturally I only had one copy of this particular disk. Disk is several years old, has always worked properly, and has not had any of the things happen to it that normally ruins them. Put the disk in today and it says its not formatted. Is my info just gone or is their some remedy?

Have you used that particular floppy disk in this machine before with no problems?

Have you tried it in another machine?

If a floppy was written on an older floppy drive (older meaning usage, not just age) the heads are possibly "slack" (slightly out of proper alignment) and the disk won't be read properly on a newer drive. If you can get it to read on another machine, copy the data, then write it back to a new floppy disk.

It could also be that the media has just deteriorated beyond a salvage point. They do get to a point where the media just won't hold the magnetization any longer.
