Re: screen resolution in Windows ME

I have never used ME so please bear with me about the details.

Unless it is vastly different from other versions there should be a SEARCH button on the START Menu?

If so click SEARCH and then select All Files and Folders option and then type in .bmp

It will then show all the bitmap images on your computer.

As patient as you have been with me, I will bear with you forever! As far as I can tell, ME is a very slightly changed (very slightly changed!) version of Windows 98.
As for me, I must be a little dense today. I did the search and a gazillion items turned up. How do I know what they are and what I should delete? Talk about needing patience (with me!).

On top of the search results page you can click View and choose Thumbnails.

This will show you a small version of each picture. Many programs including Windows have bitmap images for buttons etc.

All I can suggest is to look for the image you deleted the shortcut to (if you recall what it was).

Perhaps a Wallpaper which would be listed as a Wallpaper.

I would also suggest trying this driver:

    http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...2&submit=Go%21

Read the Read Me file for installation instructions:

    ftp://aiedownload.intel.com/df-suppo.../readme_9x.txt

Before doing so make sure that System Restore is turned on and create a restore point just in case.

Also this post might be helpful:
Turning to your main problem. Your problem is probably one of display
drivers. First try booting to Safe Mode, opening the Device Manager,
(System Properties | Device Manager) and delete all entries in the section
Display Adapters and then reboot back into Normal Mode and let Win Me
redetect your hardware and reinstall your video drivers. Once complete
you should be able to alter the resolution and colour depth to meet your
requirements. If this still doesn't work go to your graphic card
manufacturer's web site and download updated Win Me compatible drivers for
your graphics card and then install them. The web site should give
details of how to do this.
