Unhappy "Help and Support" page ... HELP !!

When starting in safe mode the final screen to appear used to be "Help and Support", with "System Restore" being one of the highlightable options on the page... Now, however, with "Help and Support" at the top of the page, it just says that it can not be found... WAHOPPEND... my spyware program says clean... norton 2001 says clean... Assistance would be greatly appreciated... Thanks, e'newbie("ME"+Sony Vaio + AMD 650mhz.+6 GIG

Just to verify: It is System Restore which "cannot be found"?

Is it accessible via: Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.

If not you can try to reset it by turning it off then rebooting then back on. This will remove all points if any are there:

    1. In Control Panel, click System.
    2. Click the Performance tab.
    3. Click the File System button.
    4. Click the Troubleshooting tab.
    5. Click the Disable System Restore check box.
    6. Click OK, and then click Close.
    7. Restart your computer when prompted.

Is there a problem that you were hoping System Restore would resolve?

Thanks for answering jephree... My original problem concerns the "Help and Support" page accessed from the start menu... When I get there and click on the index, I can highlight individual topics but when I click on "display", nothing happens. The right side of my screen, where I used to be able to find out stuff about the highlighted item remains blank... A related change in my computer seems to be that, when in safe mode the last screen in the sequence was always the "found" "Help and Support" Page, with System Restore being one of the highlightable options on that page... Now when the last screen in the "Safe Mode" sequence appears "Help and Support" appears at the top, but then below it , it says, "This page can not be found"... I got in touch with Sony(my laptop manufacturer), and the online helper suggested that I do a System Restore... I'd rather not... And anyway... I tried that previously and it did nothing to solve that particular problem... while it DID solve another problem that was my main concern at the time... Any ideas?... Thanks, John

I have never used ME. Have XP now. I try to not let posts go unanswered however

That being said there are many issues with XP and Help and Support. I do not know if they are relevant in ME but if someone were to ask me about XP I would first off provide the following:

    Try: Start/Run/CMD: regsvr32 /u hhctrl.ocx

    Also:

If you've run Toni Arts Easy Cleaner on your XP installation, and allowed it
to delete what it found in the registry, then your Help and Support will not
run. Easy Cleaner deletes the values of 2 necessary Registry keys. See my
web site, www.dougknox.com and go to the Windows XP section. Follow the
appropriate link for Fix Window XP Help. This small VB Script will repair
the damage done by Easy Cleaner. Note: other Registry cleaning programs
    cause the same problem.

Thanks again: My computer can't find that file, and I haven't run that "easy cleaner" thing... but... could MY spyware software have possibly deleted something important? John

It does appear that the registry values for Help and Support are very vulnerable.

I would check your firewall to make sure that it is not blocking Help and Support as this is an online service.
