monitor dark after booting OK in safe mode

Wireless PCI card driver didn't install properly. Pulled card out and now
the monitor goes dark immediately after booting. The monitor works fine in safe mode.
    Any ideas?

Could you have "bumped" the video adapter card (if present and not Onboard video) while you were in the system? Ensure it's fully seated if present, and all video cables/connectors are properly engaged.

If the above doesn't apply, (while in Safe Mode) open Device Manager (R-click My Computer, click Properties, then Device Manager). Are there any yellow exclamation marks evident?

On board video. Cable tight. No exclamation marks. Running 98SE

    Thanks for the suggestions Dan.

You could try a registry restore, especially if this has just recently happened.

When you boot the machine, start tapping the Ctrl key near the end of the POST (Power On Self Test), before you see "Starting Windows 98".

This should give you the MS Windows 98 Startup Menu. Choose Command prompt only. When you get the C:\> prompt, type in scanreg/restore. Pick a date prior to the failed driver load, when things were still normal.

An alternative for getting the MS Boot Menu is; Start, Run, type in msconfig. Click on the Advanced tab (near the bottom right of the General window). Place a check mark in the box for Enable Start Menu. You'll then get the start menu on the next boot. To remove the menu, reverse these steps once you're back in windows.

Any updates or software installs performed after the date you pick will have to be reinstalled, as this reverts your registry back to that date.
