My computer runs windows 98 SE. TheWindows set up page in program properties has gone ]blank, and I cant open internet connection wizard. It says "failed to load the internet connection wizard helper component". I have checked the Tapi32.dll file is there. Can anyone help ?

Where is this set up page and program properties? Do you mean Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Set Up?

Have you tried opening icwconn1.exe manually?

Based upon your posting (*), I was under the impression that all this was within a running 98SE environment.

Obviously you've tried opening icwconn1.exe manually. In the Windows environment? Or in raw dos?

I looked for the above file in the C:\program files\internet Explorer\Connection wizard, as you asked --- but there was no file in there.
I have even loaded up windows 98 several times but has the same outcome.

i havent looked in DOs as i am not sure how to find the file in DOS.

Do you have "Show all files" enabled in Windows Explorer or My Computer? (Tools, Folder Options, View, Files and folders)

Is there data on the drive that you want to preserve?

Are the O/S installs not "taking"? Please provide as much detail as possible. ie; What's been attempted/results of same. How it was attempted, etc.

i completly wiped everything out and started again with windows 98. everything is OK now
