Hello,

I'm using a Dell Dimension XPS D300 desktop that i purchased in february of 1998. I recently upgraded from windows 95 to windows 98 se. I did not use the dell upgrade. I used the windows upgrade. Most of the problems I had were similar to those posted by others in this forum but I was able to resolve them. The screen resolution is one I have not been able to fix. I can't run any of my graphic design programs. I'm hoping there is a solution that does not involve me getting a new video card. I ugraded the driver in devce manager but it must have been the wrong one. It gave me the option to use 256 and 16 million colors and better screen area but when i used either one of those options and restarted the computer, i got an error message during the boot phase and the machine cut off. HELP! I've read other threads about this so I know you will want to know about my system. Here is the nformation below: Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you tried going to the manufactures website and downloading the newest drivers for your make of graphics card?

Or, find the drivers located on the Dell disk that came with your PC. and install that one.

Best way to do that is, after finding the right drivers. Open up your device manager, Uninstall the current driver. Reboot and if windows can't find the right one, choose it from the list and install it.

I've had this computer since 1997 and other than the windows 95 disk, I have no clue where the other disks are located. This machine has been so reliable that I've never needed to reload anything. I did go to the dell site but I downloaded the wrong driver twice. I can't seem to find the one that updates my driver. I went to another site that someone suggested to another person having this problem but that didn't help either.
Any other ideas?

Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition (clean freeware). Once it finishes loading, generate a Report. Choose ALL PAGES and HTML format.

Post back the information under the --- PCI / AGP --- section.

This program will provide information about all your hardware, complete with links to the various hardware manufacturers.
