I installed win 2000 sp4 on my sister computer when i booted it up it kept coming up with found new hardware audio adapter cmi8830 i think it could be dmi8830 she told it back a little pissed off so you can see why i need HELP

Sorry for the delay
my sister's computer had win 98se on it, so i but win2000 service pack4 on and a new harddriver and cd-rw. The harddrive and cd-rw are both working fine but when i reboot it said found new hardware cmi8830 audio adapter. I can't get any sound when i go into control panel then sounds and multimedia everything is grayed out if you know what i mean Sounds-Audio-Hardware. Sound playback it said no audio hardware found is this onbroad sound there is NO sound card in the computer and i don't have a clue when i disable it and reboot it came back new hardware found cmi8830 audio adapter PLEASE HELP

please download and run this please then copy and paste your system info on to this thread then we can see what you have got installed audio wise on your system and we will then know which way to take it
i.e. new drivers or add/delete drivers
