following the much mourned death of my desktop due to mishandling i have been forced to fall back on my trusty advent laptop, however i have not used this for over a year because of a crippling infection that i cannot even begin to fix, upon the windows password screen there a blue back ground informing me of an error at 0028:C0011e36 in vxd vmm(01) and that it was caused by Trojan-Spy.html.smitfraud.c. After i enter the password i am immediatly confronted by an explorer error message which prevents me from starting up any program or accessing any folders etc and it returns immedietly after the ok button is clicked. The same happens when i startup in safe mode.

If anyone could help at all i would be very greatfull!

p.s. there are a number of antivirus programs that i did not install now on my computer such as psguard and antivirus gold

Hi no probs i understand your busy and all so thanks for the reply! But i can't even download hijack this, as i mentioned i am instantly confronted by explorer error messages upon reaching windows which prevent me from doing anything! if i am quick i can restart the computer after clicking ok on the error message but there is only like 1 second before another comes up and each time ok is pressed everything i was doing/trying to do is cancelled
Am i looking at a complete reinstallation/format and if so will i lose all my files?
