Angry Split from "stuck settings" thread

    Hi all

I have come across this forum while searching google for the answer to the exact same problem (its great to see how much effort ppl put in to help out)

I have exactly the same problem as talkingrock BUT WITH ONE DIFFERENCE'; my graphic card seems to be onboard rather then a separate graphics card. My PC was also custom built by a local store.

the device manager shows my card as "standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA)".

I'm hoping you guys can get me sorted too

    thanks a million in advance

This thread is split from http://www.d-a-l.com/help/showthread.php?t=32789

Princess275's problem is that her display settings have reverted to 640x480 resolution and 16 colours.

Princess275: Could you please run the D-A-L Online Hardware Scan (there's a link in my signature) and copy the log file here so that we can try to identify the correct drivers that you need for your PC? Also, do you have the original driver CD or floppy disks that came with the PC?

I don't know what onboard means other than it is built into the machine, connected to the motherboard, which mine is.

    Princess,
I have downloaded Everest from a link here at DAL, and it tells me all I need to figure out whose hardware and software I have in here, versions, etc. Very helpful that Everest. I went from there to figuring out which drivers I needed. Also critical was a jumpdrive to ferry the drive over. It connects via the USB port. Rock

Here's the problem -- you aren't running a driver specific to your hardware, so Windows thinks you have a "standard" (ca. 1988) VGA card installed and will only show you 640x480x16 colors. You need to find the drivers specific to your video hardware (which ought to be on the CDs that came with the computer, somewhere, since it's an on-board adapter) and install them; you'll most likely then be automatically switched to using them and have other resolution and color depth choices available (or if not automatic, once the drivers are installed you can switch to them via the "Advanced" button on Display Properties).

If you don't have the driver CD (it may say "PC Chips" on it as the graphics chip is built onto the motherboard so the driver would be on the motherboard driver CD), try this link to download the latest version of the SiS 300 driver from the SiS web site:

    http://driver3.sis.com/graphic/gpu/3..._115_win9x.zip

    Hope that helps
