    Franken-Computer (motherboard help)

I put my system components and hdd into my friend's coputer, in hopes to upgrade, but everything is all messed up now. I am pretty knowledgable about computers, i just don't think before i do things. My friend says i need to install the mobo onto the hdd, but the disk is broken. When I startup, win2k doesn't load, and says i need to insert the startup disk to fix it. Well, my startup disk is gone, so I made boot disks. It won't load from them, it says "please remove media." First, should I just buy XP and install it? Second, what more do i need to do to make this atrocity work; do I need to install drivers, because, as i said, the disk is shattered. The mobo is an Asus Socket A A7s266-VM/U2. Please help.

Open this site & paste A7s266-VM/U2 into the box: Input Model to Search

There are the board drivers & BIOS plus the manual. The last updates were in 2003.

Not sure what you mean by "i need to install the mobo onto the hdd". Do you mean the drivers? If this is the same hard drive with the same motherboard in a new case there shouldn't be an issue to 2K. But... am I missing something

Anyway you are very limited not having a system disk for any computer. That being said why not go with XP? Unfortunately without a previous Windows disk you will not be able to go with an upgrade CD but will need the new version CD.

If you know your 2K Product Key you can use any 2K CD to try to fix your current system.
What is the verbatim error message?

You might also consider a new motherboard depending on what type of upgrading you had in mind.
