can't logon after upgrade to win 2000

I just upgraded to win 2000 from win 98 and thought I had covered all the incompatible issues but now the logon screen comes up, I logon, it says "loading your personal settings" then flashes to "saving your settings" and returns to the logon screen. Is there anyway to get into my compter and programs? Thank you

i'm pretty sure that the cause is incorrect bios. I have downloaded the current bios from gateway but I can't unzip it because I can't get into the computer. Is there a way to do this from a command prompt? I cant seem to access the c drive through dos.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode?

I don't see a connection between the described problem and the bios. What are the particulars that caused this reasoning?

I tried safe mode. I guess I decided it was bios after doing several searches on the internet. The fact that the computer also displayed a "it is now safe to shut down your computer" message, was linked to a bios problem. The good news is that after many tries of different things, I am able to access the computer again and things are good. The last thing I did was run a repair from the win2000 disk which I had tried before without luck but this time I can log in and run the programs. Thanks.

Heh, the repair was going to be my second suggestion if there was no luck in Safe Mode. Glad it's all straightened out.
