When I start ( boot up ) my computer it gets as far as the windows logo and then the screen turns blue and the microsoft registry checker starts. It takes about 14 minutes to scan and repair the problem, then prompts me to press o.k. and all is well till I turn the computer off and then on again and have to go through the same thing again, every time. When it is scanning it says : REPAIRING C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM.DAT : Can somebody please tell me what the problem is and how to fix it. Any help would be greatly wellcome.
Thanks. x-raymikeone.

Boot to DOS. (Tap the Ctrl key during the startup to get the MS Startup Menu. Choose "Command Prompt Only".) At the C:\> prompt, type in scanreg/fix. When complete, try a normal start.
Post back with your results.
Thanks for your reply, but I have done what you suggest and it has not fixed the problem. Every time I boot up the registry checker starts to repair c:\windows\system.dat and takes a long time to complete. I do not want to clear everything off my computer and start again as it will take for ever to get all the new updates e.t.c. If there is somebody else out there who knows about this problem PLEASE HELP. Once again Dan Penny thank you for your help.Originally Posted by Dan Penny
