    Laptop will not boot up

Hi, all of a sudden my laptop which is running Windows 2000 Pro, will not boot up. I have managed to get it going in safe mode and ran a virus scan which found four Trojan horses, but that did not help. I mainly use it for internet access on a wireless system.
What it needs is the equivalent of XP system restore I guess ! But of course it doesn't have that. Any advice gratefully received.

From Safe Mode options: Last known good configuration is essentially System Restore.

Also see the ideas here: http://www.pcworld.com/howto/article...,112479,00.asp

Also perhaps run a HijackThis log by our Security Pros:

Please follow the instructions HERE & then post your log in a new thread in the Spyware, Adware, Viruses and HijackThis Logs section.
    (Not in this section please).

Hi thanks for the reply. I've tried Last Known Good Configuration and nothing happens ! Also do not have the Windows 2000 disk unfortunately. If I can get on the net in safe mode, I will post a hi-jack this log on the other forum. Thanks once again for your help.

If Windows XP or 2000 came with your computer and you don't have a Microsoft Windows CD-ROM, the Recovery Console might be on one of the CDs the vendor bundled with your PC. But it might not. Fortunately, the Recovery Console is hidden in a free, downloadable Microsoft program called Setup Disks for Floppy Boot Install. Visit Microsoft's site to download the setup-disk file that works with XP Professional; available too is the XP Home version, which will also work for Windows 2000, Me, and 98.
