with the recovery disc there should be a number, if it's a M$ number it will be a 25 digit code

    "... to reactivate my system.."

There is no "Activation" of the O/S in 98 or 98SE. Or did you mean something like "rejuvenate"?

If you're using a Recovery Disk as opposed to a MS full CD, you must have a proprietary system. (Compaq, Hewlett Packard, Dell, Gateway, IBM/Lenovo, etc.) This product code may be the number of the machine, usually on the back of the unit. If it's the 98 Product Code, it could be on a holographic sticker on the front or side of the machine.

If it is indeed the 98 Product Code, and you don't have one, you'll need to obtain one. I'll note here that it is against the policies of this site to assist people in circumventing licensed software manufacturers protection elements, such as a valid product code.

If you can provide more info on the make, model, etc of the machine it would help matters.

I obtained the product code once before from Hewlett Packard, but it was too long ago and I forgot how to get to their support center.
