I believe everyone is addressing the wrong window. I have Windows 2000. My DSL telephone line was knocked out by a rainstorm here in Houston and while waiting I have gone back to my 56K modem. I have unclicked the "Show Terminal Window" in just about every location I can see it..in the Network Connections window for my ISP as well as under modems in the Control Panel.
I THINK that "Terminal Window" that everybody on this and other sites are mistakenly addressing is one where you actually type in your login information as opposed to automated login and AFTER a dialed connection has been made..
The "pre-dial window" on the other hand opens with a black background (hopefully there is an attached picture). The first line is "ATE1" followed by a blank line and the "OK" followed by a line with a blinking cursor. Then you can either click "Continue" or "Cancel". I can't remember if just hitting "Enter" (which would be a <cr>) works the same as clicking "Continue".
I wonder if this might be solved with using a "script" that would return a carriage return after seeing the "OK"? However the modem has not even started dialing at this point so i guess this pre-dial screen relates to my computer handshaking with some communication level lower than the level represented by the actual dialing.
Since dialing has not started at this point "what" is communicating with my computer to create the info in the pre-dial window? Is it just an interaction bewteen the modem and Windows? Are there advanced modem settings to get rid of this? (I couldn't find any when looking at the modem's properties windows) I have PPP as the protocol..could it be this is a SLIP connection or something like that. At this point I have seen not a single solution to the problem. I would appreciate any responses. Thanks![]()
