Solved - Windows 98 Crash
-
Re: Windows 98 Crash
I think I've found the graphics drivers which will work from the originating manufacturer.
About 35% or 40% down the above linked page you will see; Trio3D (365,366) Drivers, and the Windows 95, 98 and ME Drivers below that. Grab the 9x26106.zip package.
Unzip the files to an empty directory of your choice. Open Device Manager. Expand Display Adapters. Open the Properties of the listed adapter and go through the Update Driver exercise, pointing it to the directory where you unzipped the files. If it needs a file and it can't find it, point it to the S3_4.INF file in the directory.
Any luck?

Hi Dan,
My word it's been a while since we've chatted. Thanks for your note and sorry for taking so long to reply. I appreciate the time and effort you have put into solving this problem, however, at some time soon I will need to make a decision about what to do with this computer if it continues to be difficult so if you could let me know what you think might be the best course of action from here, I would be really grateful. I'm happy to wait if you think a solution is on the horizon, otherwise I will start looking into replacement options.
All the best to you Dan and I really hope you're well and happy.
Kindest regards,
Operaboy.

Hi Dan,
Please forget my last message, for some reason I hadn't been alerted to the fact that you had been sending me messages. I will get onto all of that and get back to you to let you know how I go.
Thanks mate ;-).
Your Australian buddy,
Operaboy.

Dan...you are a GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!, it has finally taken and it all works. If I wasn't a straight male I would be far more effusive but I can't thank you enough for saving my computer from the dreaded 'paperweightdom' that always looms large over these machines. The main difference was that I went through the 'forced' driver update avenue of 'Display a list...Have Disk' rather than 'Search for a better driver...' and it all just did as it was told. If that is what I had been meant to do from the beginning, I really apologise for the run around, but in any case you got me over the line and I am so grateful. I may need a hand getting my Wireless connection back to full health, but hopefully that won't be necessary. I will let you know of anything else that I can't resolve but otherwise thanks not just for your help but for being such a nice guy as well.
All the best to you and yours,
Operaboy (aka David Thelander)

Make sure you back up all the proper drivers we've found for this machine................
