I have an HP Pavillion and an HL-DT-st CD-RW GCE8400B and I have gone and found drivers and installed them as well as Nero and Easy cd creator and everything seems in order. I then go to burn disc using different ypes of cds and it start the prepare audio files then just sits with no response. The cd light never comes on and it never burns cds. Am I missing something or is this CD-RW just garbage? Thanx.

Is the drive detected in the Device Manager? If so any yellow !

Did you just install this drive? Did it ever work?

Are you sure the disks that you are using are compatible with the drive?

The Drive Is On The Device Manager And There Is No Yellow. This Cd-rw Has Been Used Before. I Was Using 2000 Pro, Then Upgraded To Xp, Did Not Like Xp So I Went Back To Pro And That Is When It Quit Working. The Disks Are The Same Disks That I Have Always Used And They Worked Fine Before.when I Go To To Burn A Disk, It Prepares The Audio Data, And Then It Just Sits There. I Hear The Cd Speed Up Super Fast, Then Not Do Much, Thenspeed Up Again. And The Light On The Drive Never Turns On.

XP would have installed its' own drivers. Not sure what the downgrade would have done but the coincidence is there.

I would suggest uninstalling the drive via the Device Manager & then rebooting. Not sure if 2K automatically loads drivers as XP does but if not then try reinstalling the drivers you have found.
