    deletion of Windows 2000

I upgraded my windowsME to windows 2000 professional on my Compaq Armada M700 notebook which has 2gb on partitioned disc C and 4Gb on disc D.
I am a total novice and somehow or other managed to load windows 2000 twice ( oddly one of the systems has smaller images) taking up 94 % of my hard drive memory.
I wish to delete one of the systems but have no idea how to do this. I am also fearful i may corrupt or damage the whole system. Would i be better advised to remove both and start again though i have a further problem in that i do not have floppy disc boot up facility.
    Can anyone help please??

    jrc,

Sorry that you've posted so long ago with no responses. I think that you've had no reply because it's a tricky one to answer: technically, yes, you could remove one copy of Windows 2000 .... almost .... but it's very hard to do and you'll never get all of it. In truth, the two versions of Windows 2000 are now inter-twined, with some files from one installation having overwritten files from the other installation and some other very deep bits of the system (known as the registry) probably now being quite messed up. So splitting out a second copy of Windows 2000 is the kind of thing that even experts would shy away from on their own PCs so, when trying to explain it to someone over the Internet, the best advice is really just to wipe it all and start again.

Incidentally, I expect that you got yourself into that position by booting the PC up from a CDROM (not a floppy disk) in order to start the first installation and, then (I'm guessing), when the PC finished copying the files off of the CD and restarted, you left the CD in the CDROM drive when you should have taken it out. By leaving it in there, the PC booted from the CD again instead of the hard disk. This caused it to run the Setup process again and you went through the options and installed it a second time. If that's what you did, it's a common mistake and most of us have done it in the past at some point

Many thanks for the advice. I have now resolved the problem by removing both systems and loaded Windows XP.
