Networking w2K with Win98
Good evening,
I have (2) computers on a home network. Using the network and router I installed, they both successfully share a cable modem connection.
I'd like it if the two computers were able to "see" each other's hard drives so that I can transfer large files between them. To be honest, I mean to upload all the critical files from the Win98 computer to the W2K computer so I can wipe the hard drive, reformat, and install Win2K on it. If it were only a matter of a couple of meg of files, I'd just make CDs. However, we're talk some large files. And I'd prefer that the network function as it should so that printers could be shared.
I've done this "maneuver" once before when one computer was Win95 and the other Win98. So I know that is possible. But now, I just can't seem to get the computers to "see" each other on the network.
I have enabled sharing on the drives, and made sure that each user has the proper level access. But still nothing. I even went as far as naming the Workgroups the same (I called them HOME on each computer).
I've searched the the archives here and looked for similar questions. As recommended, I have changed the network card settings from AUTOMATIC to 100MBPS/ Half Duplex. Still nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Dominic Greco
