    Windows 2000 reboots continuously

I was installing QuickBooks 2003 on my computer; the program told me I would have to restart my computer in order to continue the install. Now my computer continuously reboots. I can get to the Windows 2000 Pro startup screen, but then it hangs and reboots again. I can reboot in Safe Mode. I checked my Event Log and these are the errors I got after one failed reboot and then a reboot into Safe Mode. I also did a search for this problem on this board and saw the post about the Zotob worm, I got the patch and ran it, but it came back clean. I also noticed that some of the boot files listed in the Event Log errors are related to Symantec, so I contacted them and all they could recommend was to uninstall NIS 2005 and try to reboot, but Windows won’t let me uninstall NIS 2005 in Safe Mode. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jim

You might try uninstall QuickBooks as well but as to Norton:

Uninstalling and reinstalling Norton Internet Security, Norton AntiSpam, or Norton Personal Firewall 2005

    http://symantec.atgnow.com/consumer/...sultType=5000#

Removing Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2005 from Windows 2000/XP after Add/Remove Programs does not work

Removing your Norton program using SymNRT

    jephree,
Thank you, your suggestions and links regarding the SymNRT.exe tool worked and I can now reboot into normal mode. I find it amazing that I can spend an hour on the phone with Symantec to no avail and after your post, it takes less than 5 min. to fix the problem, with the tools I need being available on Symantec's own website. I think they need to better train their tech support people.

    Thank you again,

Were you able to install QuickBooks & re-install Norton?

It is generally advised to turn off Anti Virus software during major program installs.
