I have a Dell Dimension 4100 running Windows Me. A month ago it started to get difficult to start. On pressing the start button a series of 5 beeps comes from inside the tower. A few sounds come from the hard disk - then nothing. Nothing appears on the monitor. After pressing the start and reset buttons over and over again it will eventually boot up normally (sometimes in safe mode). It then runs perfectly. I tried a complete re-install of Windows (after formatting the HD) - but the same is happening. A new HD was suggested but I couldn't get that to start at all!

Any suggestions?
