    Re: Administrator Log on

Still trying to figure out the poledit, have been swamped with end of the year work; the site in question is the sbc/yahoo software updates for your downloaded accesories related to the Dsl, (browser, messenger, and various other accessories); I am thinking that I could just take it all out and re-download it, after all it worked the first time, they do not do updates all that often, we just happened to get the old software, because the new was not available for download yet, and now it is, and hers' isn't allowed to update, so I am thinking a re-do may be in order, and if it doesn't work can always do a GoBack, and she will just have to use the old software until it's figured out or we buy a new computer. (no problems with the vital updates, as of yet)
    Blessings

Is GoBack installed on this system? Hmmmm......

I don't use it, never have, so I don't know much about it. However, I contribute to a number of help forums, and most of the advice I've seen given about it is to not use it. There are evidently a number of problems it can cause.

If it's on this system, and you can do it safely without losing anything, I'd recommend uninstalling it for now. You can always reload it if you want it. (Provided of course that you have the program to reinstall.) If it's bundled with the Recovery CD, this may be a problem, unless there's provisions to install it separately.

If you have newer versions of this problem software/updates, by all means remove and install again with the newer versions.

Don't know what is said, will have to research, as you have me curious now; and I do have the disc, and it installs seperately, although, I must say that when windows decided to come up with an Explorer.exe error--re-install windows, it saved our butt, and has came in handy a few times over the past couple of years; and I just un-installed the older version, and put the newest version on there, so far no problems.....(Would prefer to have the backup)
I would also like to add a couple of cents Oh Oh LoL
I was doing some reading, and discovered that microsoft also had a system restore for 98Se on the disc, but have not found it, and from previous experience, in my opinion, it does not restore your system completely, or even close to what may be needed (it kept what I was trying to get rid of) therefore leaving problems to solve; the GoBack is complete, and with the newer version, it gives you an option to save any of the files from the restore that you would have otherwise lost, so I must say that our experience has been on the plus side up to this point.....(knock on wood-LoL )(and no indication at all that this is the suspect, as it has been on there for years)
Ok, off to read up on the GoBack. curious (might not be so thrilled after researching it) LoL
Thank You for the tip and Sincere Blessings

Well, did some research, and mostly rave reviews with everything, except Xp, so I did an Xp readiness test and the 98Se did fine, but the Xp said that norton GoBack and the speed disk, might be a very serious problem-Hmmm, but that's not for this thread, and I am going to do some more checking, and share the information in the appropriate places, if not already there.
Blessings-and again thank you-It Truly is a Good Day When You Learn Something (ahead of time LoL)

Yes, I decided to relook into it and actually just finished. It seems the later versions of GoBack have improved. It used to crash certain machine configurations. Although I did still find reports of problems in my search, the Pro's outweighed the Con's.

GoBack isn't really required/needed with XP because of the System Restore functionality built into the O/S. Basically the same idea.

"..but the Xp said that norton GoBack and the speed disk, might be a very serious problem.."

XP doesn't let anything else operate the hardware. If a program requires operation of hardware, XP creates a dos virtual machine as an environment to run the program.

As GoBack writes to the MBR (Master Boot Record) of your (O/S) hard disk, it can conflict with XP as it does the same.

SpeedDisk wants to control the drive being worked on. XP doesn't like that.

Did you do this (newer version download/install from your #11 post)?

"I am thinking that I could just take it all out and re-download it, after all it worked the first time, they do not do updates all that often, we just happened to get the old software, because the new was not available for download yet, and now it is, and hers' isn't allowed to update, so I am thinking a re-do may be in order, and if it doesn't work can always do a GoBack, ..."

If so, do you still get the Administrator error?

Do you have access to any options settings for GoBack? I'm wondering if something there may be generating this error.

Just got home from an injurous day at work, and the answers to your questions, is that I have not re-downloaded yet, and I didn't even think about checking the GoBack availability, a major error on my part, thinking that if the old version worked, so should the new, and as I found out today, that-that is not always the case, hence my injury, from a professional job, that was done in-correctly, just glad it happened the way it did; but it taught me that everything needs to be checked, to make sure of the compatibility, will do those things and report back.

Almost forgot, as I am sure you may have discovered in your reading, that the system restore has more cons than pros, or at least that's the way I read it, and also, when I was going through some other issues, I found that the system restore likes to state that there were no changes made, no matter which restore point was chosen, hence-the GoBack LoL (not sure why it doesn't work)(think some one mentioned some kind of corruption); still can't remember exactly which version of 98 it said was on the disc-still thinking it was Se--Ok, time to switch over, and run those tests.
    Blessings
Disclaimer-depends on where the readings done, so I plan on reading some more LoL

Ok, did not make any difference, and am thinking that since the only issue is with the SbC, that I suppose it is not worth worrying about, was just curious and a little concerned that it may happen else where, but has not so far.

"Can you point me to these (above) updates (the source website, etc)? I'd like to check this." (From my #10, re; your #9 post.)
