For whatever reason those updates have become corrupted.
Go to Control Panel Add/Remove Programs & check the top box that says: Show Updates.
Then uninstall these updates & return to Windows Update. They should appear again for installation. This happens to me on occassion. Belarc is good at detecting these issues.
Your help is wonderful. I willtry again. Fourth Time. I may have installed something I really do not need. ALL your advise and programs have made my computer enjoyable. Appreciatve member. Avie
Trouble today. again MS Security Update page cannot be reached. Says I neetd to ahve active X and scripts enabled. I have done all this and added MS sites to TRUSTED (Internet Options). Avie needs forever-ongoing help with MS.
A few ideas:
Suggestion 1:-
Clearing Temporary Internet files, cookies and history in Internet Explorer
Tools>Internet Options>General
You'll see Delete Cookies, Delete files, Delete History
NB: "Delete all offline content", will delete all files needed to browse the websites
offline.
Reboot and try Windows Update again.
Suggestion 2:-
The below links assist you in checking your system for parasites:-

Please note that some malware may kill the internet connection when it is removed,
the program on the link below will enable you to regain the internet connection.

Suggestion 3:-
Make sure you haven't got anything blocking Windows Update like Nortons, Zonealarm
etc
Also make sure you don't have a Web Accelerator working in the background such as
NetZerio, HiSpeed, Speedband etc.

Thank you for review and help. It did work this time. I did have all setting as you suggested, I thought. One unknown incident always occurs. The same critical update shows repeatedly. Way back Q273991. This time I removed by using 273991UN.INF Because I had 3 files with different version of VSERVER.VXD installed. The patch should have installed for W98SE verstion Vserver.vxd 4.10.2224 in Windows\System; Windows\Vcm; Windows\Options\Cabs. I reinstalled from Windows update (now referring to Q329414) I now have W\Sys v 4.10.2224; W\VCM 4.10.2225; W\Options\Vbs v 4.10.2224. What shoud I change? Ever thanks for you help. Avie

Admittantly, I haven't chased down all of the above versions info, so, is the last update you installed the latest available from MS?

What are you looking at changing?
